Job Description
Forest 1st Tutoring is looking for passionate, experienced, and
enthusiastic tutors to join our dedicated Alternative Provision team. Our
tutors work with young people who have struggled to access education in a
traditional school setting — whether due to special educational needs,
anxiety, or other barriers to learning.
We believe every child deserves the chance to succeed, and we’re looking
for tutors who share this belief wholeheartedly. This role requires patience,
creativity, and a genuine passion for helping young people rediscover a love
for learning.
As a Forest 1st Tutoring Alternative Provision Tutor, you will work
independently while benefiting from the support of a caring and
professional team. You’ll design personalised, engaging learning
experiences that build confidence, nurture curiosity, and help students
reconnect with education in a meaningful way.
We are particularly keen to hear from teachers or tutors experienced in
supporting learners with SEND and those who are committed to providing
consistent, high-quality education for at least five hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver highly personalised and engaging learning
sessions for students who have struggled in mainstream education.
• Create exciting, confidence-building learning experiences that
meet each learner’s individual needs, abilities, and interests.
• Demonstrate compassion, enthusiasm, and flexibility in your
approach to supporting young people.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and the
Forest 1st Tutoring team.
• Support the development of educational plans and contribute to
EHC Plans where appropriate.
• Work independently, punctually, and reliably, managing your own
time, resources, and lesson planning.
• Maintain regular communication with Forest 1st Tutoring and ensure
accurate session feedback and reporting.
• Safeguard the wellbeing of all students, following our Safeguarding
and Health & Safety policies.
Requirements
• Proven experience teaching or tutoring young people, ideally with
SEND or Alternative Provision experience.
• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to
learning and re-engage with education.
• Ability to plan creatively and adapt lessons for a wide range of
abilities and needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a
compassionate and patient approach.
• Enthusiasm, reliability, and the ability to work independently with
integrity.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (current and valid).
• Commitment to safeguarding and continuous professional
development.
• Availability to offer at least five hours per week on a consistent
basis.

Essential Information
• Contract Type: Self-employed initially, moving to a zero-hours
contract on the payroll.
• Payment: £35–£45 per hour (dependent on experience and
placement).
• Cancellations: Full payment applies if a client cancels within 24
hours. Flexibility is appreciated where possible.
• Private Agreements: Tutors must not enter private arrangements
with Forest 1st Tutoring clients. This will be written into your contract.
• Data: Tutor information is used solely for administrative, billing, and
contact purposes, in line with our Privacy Policy.

Location:
Various – in-person teaching across Hampshire and surrounding areas in
suitable client-agreed locations (such as student homes, community
spaces, or alternative education settings). Some online tuition may be
possible where appropriate.
