We are seeking a patient, creative and flexible tutor to support a Year 8 student with a profile including autism, ADHD and demand avoidance. The student is currently not attending school and is being supported through a home-based education package.
This role blends STEM-focused tuition (primarily maths and science) with a mentoring-led approach. The student responds best to low-demand, interest-based activities, and the tutor will need to adapt flexibly in the moment, using a calm, relational style to build trust and engagement.
Sessions will take place in person at the student’s home in the Stoke-on-Trent area and are likely to be delivered in two blocks each week: Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning (2.5 hours each), though there is some flexibility for the right candidate.
Over time, the goal is to support the student to build confidence and develop functional life skills, such as taking short trips outside the home (e.g. shopping for ingredients for a cooking activity).
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working with autistic students and those with a demand avoidant profile
Can plan and adapt creative, practical STEM activities
Has a strong understanding of anxiety, sensory needs and trauma-informed practice
Is confident working independently in a home setting
Can take a mentoring approach while embedding learning into meaningful, hands-on tasks
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact through truly bespoke, relationship-based education.
